Andrew Sagor joins Baker McKenzie as the Co-Chair of Leveraged Finance in North America from Kirkland & Ellis in New York. Andrew’s practice mainly focuses on structuring and negotiating market-shaping private equity and debt financing transactions.

Andrew routinely advises leading private equity firms and their portfolio companies, privately held and publicly traded Fortune 500 companies, hedge funds, alternative asset managers, lenders and other financial institutions on a wide variety of large cap and middle market financing transactions, including major leveraged buyouts, domestic and cross-border acquisitions and other leveraged financings, senior secured debt, high yield, bridge and mezzanine financings, workouts and restructurings, asset-based facilities, purchases of distressed debt and general corporate finance matters.

Litigator Charles Weir Joins Manatt

Prominent litigator Charles Weir has left McDermott Will & Emery to join Manatt in their Los Angeles office. He will serve as a partner in the firm’s litigation and healthcare practices. With almost two decades of healthcare and cross-industry experience, he represents clients in a broad range of complex business litigation and internal investigations.

Focusing on class actions, shareholder derivative suits, qui tam litigation and commercial dispute matters, Charles regularly represents public and private companies and executives in industries including healthcare, entertainment, energy and environment, advertising, and technology. He has experience representing major healthcare providers and has been involved in complex matters ranging from qui tam claims to suits brought under the federal False Claims Act, the California False Claims Act and Section 1871 of the California Insurance Code.

Charles has been defense counsel in two of the largest shareholder derivative lawsuits in California’s history, and his class action matters have included claims of unfair business practices, fraud, off-label prescription drug marketing, breaches of fiduciary duty, false advertising, violations of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and violations of both federal and state securities laws.

He recently served as lead counsel to the owner of films and associated rights that were the subject of a complex licensing/distribution arrangement with The Weinstein Company. In addition, he also represented a group of private placement noteholders in taking control of and making a new money investment in Savers LLC, a thrift store operator.
